What?Like the Nazis’ “cleansing” Europe of its Jews, the Serbs wanted the “ethnic cleansing” of any Bosniak or Croat presence in Serbian territory. Human right violations happened in many different ways like: curfews, forced relocations, rape, castration, imprisonment in concentration camps, and killings.

Where?Bosnia-Herzegovinia, and the other six nations that made up the former republic of Yugoslavia, is located in southeastern Europe along the coast of the Adriatic Sea between Italy and Romania. The population of Bosnia is about 3.8 million, with 48 percent Bosniaks, 37 percent Serbs, and 14 percent Croats.

When?After Tito’s death, politicians began to compete for power, and in order to have any power they had to divide and conquer. They turned all three groups against each other, one group always had to be better than the other. Eventually the multi-ethnic republic of Bosnia-Herzegovina quickly became the deadliest warfare and the target of an ‘ethnic cleansing.’ The genocide in Bosnia estimated the deaths of 100,000 people.
